GAESO LAUNCHES TV PROGRAMME FROM LONDON
The main objective of GORKHALI AAWAJ is to provide up to date information to all Gurkhas and their well-wishers about their struggles for equal justice as to their British counterparts, particularly in areas of pension right, benefits and permanent settlement. The programme will also focus on the plights of the Gurkhas after their settlement in the UK as a new immigrant minority -- the Gurkha ethnic community. The issues include various rules and regulations that they need to know, housing benefits, employment/unemployment, social welfare, health care, education, training and business opportunities. Other programmes of interest will include the history, culture, traditions and political systems of the United Kingdom. The first Episode-1 of November 11 was dedicated to Tul Bahadur Pun VC (www.vchero.co.uk), a great hero of Gurkhas struggle for equal pension, benefits and settlement rights. The November 17 Episode-2 will focus on health update of Pun VC, participation in various Remembrance Day in London and the first part showing of the last March 28 historic protest. In the meantime, GAESO has appointed Hari Siwakoti, Director of Toronto-based Canada-Nepal Vision (www.canevision.net) as Production Manager, and recently retired ex-Gurkhas Padam Sundar Limbur as its Financial Manager representing GAESO. For your information, Taplejung-born Limbu had been forcibly retired by the Brigade of Gurkhas and British Ministry of Defence (MOD) on last August after serving for 18 years. He is now fighting his cases against discrimination in his continuation of service up to 22 years as well as the issue of equal pension, resettlement grant and gratuity to be applicable to all serving and retired Gurkhas.
