GAESO WINS ANOTHER VICTORY ON ILE APPEALS
AND CELEBRATES IT AS A CHRISTMAS GIFT!

GAESO today welcomed the judgement of the Immigration Judge Hedworth of Asylum and Immigration Tribunal at Bradford in London who granted the right to settlement to the UK for Pushpa Limbu, the daughter of GAESO Chairperson of Ilam District Branch, Capt. Surendra Kumar Limbu, as his dependant. The appeal made by Pushpa was faciliated by GAESO and represented by its London legal team of Howe & Co. Solicitors. The appeal was heard on 26 November and the judgement was promulgated on 20 December 2007.

Commenting on this important judgement, GAESO legal advisor Gopal Siwakoti 'Chintan' said that this decision has opened the gate for the success of all other Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILE) appeal cases if the same principle of discretion under the Diplomatic Service Procedures Chapter 29.14 are exercised in future cases as well. It is not known yet whether the Home Office will appeal this case. Click for full text of the judgement .....

In other cases of hundreds of ILE appeals facilitated by GAESO, the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal in Central London, has set the dates of 15-17 April 2007 for final hearings. In these hearings, the Falklands veteran Corporal Gyanendra Rai will be one of the lead applicants. Despite his bravery in Falklands which Britain is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its ''victory' this year, Clp Rai has been denied the right to come to the UK for his war wounds treatment (visit www.vchero.co.uk for details) and for permanent settlement. Clp Rai was told by the British Embassy that he failed to establish strong ties with the UK.

OPEN LETTER TO BRIGADE OF GURKHAS AND MINISTRY OF DEFENCE THROUGH GAESO'S LAWYERS IN LONDON

GAESO has, for many years, been very disturbed by the decidedly colonial attitude of senior officials in Brigade of Gurkhas, Ministry of Defence and diplomatic functionaries at UK embassies. GAESO has tolerated their insidious allegations preferring to focus its energy, attention and resources on campaign for securing parity of rights between Gurkhas and their UK counterparts. GAESO is now forced to turn its attention to this issue as the extent of allegations, untruths and misinformation against us and our activities has surpassed all limits in recent months and reached intolerably offensive levels.

Therefore, GAESO has, through its Solicitors (Howe & Co) in London, written this open letter to Brigade of Gurkhas and Ministry of Defence on 12 September 2007 challenging them make public, with necessary proof, all that they have been alleging in their devious and shifty whisper campaigns against GAESO's legal battle and fund-raising drive click here for GAESO's monthly expenses. The fate of the Gurkhas in their fight will be decided by the British public and the courts, not by officials of the Brigade of Gurkhas and the MOD anymore. As Brigade of Gurkhas and Ministry of Defence have neither legal nor moral justification for the mercenary position they have adopted they will indulge in more mudslinging campaigns in violation of all the known protocols of decency that civilised humanity has adopted. It is necessary, therefore, to combat these officials who profit by exploiting us, for, as they have repeatedly demonstrated, there are no limits to the depths of indecency they can sink if they are not challenged in a timely and appropriate manner. Times have changed and Gurkhas will no longer bear these insults.... click here for the full text of the letter by GAESO President Padam Bahadur Gurung

Widows of War Veterans

Nepali Gurkhas have been fighting for the British Empire during the past 200 years despite the most undignified, discriminatory and shabby treatment meted out to them by the government of the UK. It is time to change the way they have been treated. The Gurkhas are now fighting tooth and nail with the UK government, not for any mercy but for their equal rights to pension, settlement and compensation.
